Challenges They Faced
The project involved converting large volumes of K–12 textbooks into Fixed-Layout ePUB format within highly compressed timelines while maintaining compatibility with the client’s proprietary reading platform.
- High-Volume Conversion Under Tight Timelines: Each production cycle required converting 80,000–100,000 pages within a 3–4 week window, demanding highly efficient workflows and coordinated production teams.
- Staggered Delivery of Source Components: Different book components such as covers, front matter, interior pages, and glossary sections were delivered at varying times and often without pre-processing tasks like cropping or bookmarking.

- Automated ePUB Production Using Kitaboo: Leveraged the Kitaboo platform to manage the conversion of PDFs into Fixed-Layout ePUB format compatible with the client’s eLib reader.
- Batch Conversion Workflow: Implemented batch-processing mechanisms capable of converting multiple textbook titles simultaneously, significantly improving production throughput.
- Multilingual Publishing Support: The production framework supported both English and Arabic language content, ensuring accurate layout and rendering for multilingual textbooks.
- Shift-Based Production Model: Established three parallel production shifts to ensure round-the-clock processing and faster turnaround times during peak workloads.
