Hurix Digital Converts 40,000 Math Content Pages into Interactive Flipping eBook

For a large educational publisher, Hurix was asked to convert 40,000 math content pages into a flipping, fully interactive eBook. The project provides students with immersive, rich multimedia learning opportunities, allowing them to engage with math as never before and learn math content more effectively. 

The problem was daunting. An extensive library of static math pages with complex equations and diagrams is not what today’s digital classroom demands. Students struggled with whether a static page could handle interactivity or efficient navigation. The publisher wanted to create a solution with rich content that could enhance the students’ interaction with mathematics in the digital classroom environment.

Hurix Digital developed an immersive flipping eBook, replicating the nuances of print but adding functional enhancements such as zoomable equations, tappable diagrams, embedded video explanations, and interactive black pen culturally relevant annotations. The output is SCORM-compliant for ready inclusion in LMS-based learning. The design helps students navigate more complex explorations of challenging, often ambiguous, concepts in mathematics through prioritized interactive visuals and ease of navigation.

Initial feedback suggests the students learned more by interacting with the flipped format than expected. Learners appreciated being able to play, pause, rewind embedded explanations, and zoom into complicated formulas that made the ambiguous appear unambiguous. Educators reported increased engagement provided the right path from ‘wall-to-wall’ learning, involving content. Instead of learning busy content in class at home, students engaged with the material, breaking learning away from traditional learning structures. The structure provided the educator with intuitive content, yielding more efficient catch-up or revision sessions to re-engage the student.
